Border Blaster is an interactive installation in which participants chip away at a brick border wall by speaking, screaming, singing, or otherwise producing sound into two microphones. Exhibited as part of the Hemispheric Institute’s Encuentro Festival 2019 in Mexico City, the installation culminated in a night of performance that asked pairs of participants to perform or have a conversation into the microphones. The performances varied from abstract sounds to dialogues about individual experiences with borders.
