United at a distance – Public health without borders – Take care of one another – Wear a mask – Stay Home
These were some of the phrases that we projected from our homes on World Health Day. We collaborated with projectionists all over the world, organized by artists in Buenos Aires, to shine messages of hope and collective power during the COVID-19 crisis. The proyectorazo encouraged anyone with a projector to stay home and project their demands safely. We joined some of our projectionist friends including Delight Lab in Chile; Bell Visuals in DC; PEST in Portland; Projetemos in Brazil; and Articiclo in Mexico and Argentina.
#Proyectorazo began in 2017, from the collective action of projecting the image of Santiago Maldonado (assassinated and disappeared by the security forces of the Argentine State) in as many cities as possible in the world. Proyectorazos are decentralized activist actions that take advantage of growing technological possibilities to amplify voices that dominant powers try to silence.
The Stay Home Proyectorazo gained a lot of attention in Latin America, so much that the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, thanked the groups for coming together, while remaining apart.
